Me and my husband went out yesterday and booked an Uber auto while returning home.

From the outside, it looked like any other auto. But the moment we got in, both of us looked at each other. It was… beautiful.

I honestly didn’t know an auto could look that aesthetic. Everything was neat, the seat covers were well designed with aesthetic colours, and there was this effort that made us feel pleasant.

Curious, I asked the driver about it. He smiled and told us that he had specially got those seat covers designed. He had spent extra money on them because he wanted his auto to look beautiful and wanted people who travelled in it to have a nice experience.

I don’t know why, but hearing that made me genuinely happy.

I told him, “Your auto looks really aesthetic. It made me happy the moment I got in.” That one compliment completely changed him.

His face lit up. He became so excited. He started telling us where he got the seat covers stitched, how much they cost, how much he enjoys keeping his auto clean, and how happy he feels when people notice it.

From there, the conversation just kept flowing. He started sharing little stories from his life like how difficult it was for him to learn Google Maps in the beginning, how frustrating it felt, and how he slowly adapted to it over time and he learnt few things from his wife.

Honestly, it wasn’t even about the stories. It was about watching someone’s face light up because they felt seen because someone noticed the effort they quietly put into their work every single day.

By the time we reached home, we both looked at each other and thought…Let’s pay him a little extra and make it memorable for him too. Just because we wanted to encourage him.

We gave him some extra amount we could and got down.

The happiness in his eyes made our day far more than the auto ride itself.

Sometimes people aren’t waiting for big rewards. They’re just waiting for someone to notice.

“A genuine compliment costs nothing, but to the right person, it can feel priceless.”
