Today, thousands of people marched from Jantar Mantar to Parliament demanding accountability and a better system. The images and videos that emerged from the protest are difficult to watch.
It is heartbreaking to see ordinary people step out of their comfort zones for a cause they believe in, only to be met with lathi charges, tear gas, and confrontation.
Support the protest or don’t. Agree with their demands or don’t. That’s your choice.
But it’s equally disheartening to watch people mock them, call them anti-national, or question why they are protesting at all.
It often feels as though those who raise their voices are expected to constantly prove that they have the nation’s best interests at heart, while those watching comfortably from the sidelines demand explanations.
Every right we enjoy today exists because, at some point, someone refused to stay silent.
Fight or don’t fight. Protest or don’t protest. But never discourage those who choose to stand up peacefully for what they believe in. Democracies grow stronger when people can question, dissent, and be heard.
