Mr. and Mrs. Mahi presents a seemingly straightforward premise: a husband helps his naturally talented wife become a cricket superstar—a feat he never achieved himself. The film’s theme revolves around celebrating each other’s successes and the significance of pursuing one’s passions which actually felt promising.

Rajkummar Rao delivers a decent performance, but the film suffers from a weak screenplay and lackluster direction, making it less engaging. The movie might not be worth your time unless you’re out of other options. The producers likely hoped that leveraging the Mahi name would attract cricket fans, but there’s no substantial connection to the sport in the film. The portrayal of cricket team selection is depicted as effortless, similar to a school team selection, which undermines the film’s credibility.

Janhvi Kapoor’s role, intended to be inspirational, falls flat. Her character transitions from becoming a doctor—fulfilling her father’s wishes—to pursuing cricket, driven by her husband’s aspirations. This simplistic portrayal reduces the complex dynamic of living out someone else’s dream to mere jealousy. The film features cliched character archetypes: an antagonistic father, a supportive mother, a superficial brother, a submissive wife, and a narrow view of cricket as the ultimate source of happiness.

The movie lacks depth and fails to evoke any genuine emotion. Rather than moving or touching scenes, it mainly elicits irritation, especially in moments meant to be emotional. Jahnavi Kapoor does not convincingly portray a sports person, and the weak narrative exacerbates the film’s shortcomings. Rajkumar Rao’s character, portrayed as a perpetual failure felt like a cry baby till the end and further detracts from the film’s impact. To sum it up, the film’s promising plot is marred by poor execution.
