Yesterday was one of those slow Sundays.
I was working on my laptop and felt like having something playing in the background, just enough to keep me a little entertained while working.
Somehow landed on Pretty Lethal on Amazon Prime Video. It had very mixed reviews but I played it anyway with zero expectations.
And honestly… I ended up enjoying it.
The movie is about five ballerinas who get stuck overnight in a dangerous place with some deadly gangsters and have to fight their way out. Sounds simple, and it kind of is.
But what made it interesting was how they fight.
The whole concept of blending ballerina movements with combat was actually very refreshing to watch. It wasn’t your typical action choreography. There was something oddly graceful about it, even in the middle of chaos.
And coming from someone who doesn’t usually enjoy too much violence or blood in movies …. this didn’t feel disturbing. Maybe because the violence here wasn’t about aggression, but survival.
Five girls just trying to make it out, using whatever they have.
And that made it feel more empowering than uncomfortable. I did read reviews later saying the whole movie feels like it exists just to deliver those few minutes of ballerina-meets-combat choreography.…and that one I kind of agree with.
But also I don’t think that’s a bad thing because those moments? They were actually worth watching.
Is it the best movie I’ve seen? Definitely not.
But did it keep me hooked and leave me with a good after-feel?
Yes.
“Not every movie has to be perfect …..some just need to feel different.”
